Soft or hard? How to find the right masturbator for you
Product names often sound spectacular, but rarely help with selection. Much more important are comprehensible details regarding firmness, weight, material, dimensions, and care. This guide shows you how to compare models sensibly without being swayed by advertising promises.
What do "soft" and "hard" mean?
"Soft" generally describes a more yielding material feel. "Hard" or "firm" usually stands for a firmer design that provides more pressure. However, these terms are not standardized across brands. Therefore, a soft model from one brand may feel different than a soft model from another manufacturer.
Use the designation as an initial orientation and then cross-reference it with the other product data.
Five questions before buying
1. What feeling are you looking for?
If yielding is important to you, start with models that have "soft" or "real soft" in the name. If you prefer a firmer feeling, "hard," "firm," or indications of a snug design might be a better fit.
2. Product weight or weight including packaging?
Only compare weights labeled in the same way. A concrete example: TENGA lists 470 g for the FLIP ZERO (TFZ-001) as product weight and 730 g including packaging. These are two specifications for the same model, not different versions. This manufacturer example is not a statement about our current range.
You cannot determine the firmness or the cleaning effort from a gram weight. For that, check the model description and the care instructions: Can the model be opened, and what steps are intended for cleaning and drying? With the FLIP ZERO, for example, TENGA shows how to open it for cleaning. This instruction does not automatically apply to other models.
3. Are material and care explained?
Check whether the manufacturer provides clear material and care instructions. Only use suitable lubricants and cleaning agents. Aggressive household cleaners, very hot water, or improper storage can damage sensitive materials.
4. How much time do you want to plan for cleaning?
Shape, openings, and internal structure influence the maintenance effort. Regardless of the model, the rule is: clean according to the manufacturer's instructions after use, dry completely, and store in a dust-free environment.
5. Can you compare the most important data?
A good product page lists at least the brand, model, weight, as well as reliable information on care and shipping. If crucial details are missing, ask support before purchasing.
Are you also comparing electric models? Additionally, check which movement is actually powered and what you have to perform yourself. What is actually automatic with an electric masturbator.
Which version is suitable for beginners?
No suitable firmness can be derived from the label "for beginners" alone. Compare the dimensions, described firmness, and care instructions for the specific model. If one of these details is missing, ask for the exact model number and the manufacturer's instructions before you decide.
